Biographical Details

Mark is a local Artist and a recent expat from the hurly burly of Auckland. Mark and his parter Lynne have always loved the tranquility that comes with life in the King Country. This is a curious quality that the air itself seems to contain. This is further enhanced by the Wanganui River that quietly underpins the mostly peaceful life of those who live here in the King Country and It’s about being connected to the land the planet and is something you don’t know you’re missing until you leave the city

Mark has been a Graphic Artist and Illustrator since qualifying with an Honours in Packaging from Auckland University of Technology way back in 1987.

Since then Mark has work in a variety of roles from Advertising to Publishing and has run his own business Since 2000
As an Illustrator Mark has worked for many of the countries leading advertising agencies and his work can also be seen at www.illustrators.co.nz Commercially he’s known for a dry brush acrylic style but much prefers to work in oils that allows the artist to be more responsive in his opinion ensuring that the original energy is not lost in the process. Naturally oils are not commercially viable because of drying time. Digital paint programmes can create a similar effect but there is nothing like the smell of linseed oil and turpentine mixed with oil pastels… perhaps an acquired taste or smell

Mark has exhibited sporadically but has always dreamed of painting full time and has moved to Taumarunui to pursue this dream. Also developing a range of T shirt Mark hopes that marketed online this will provide the bread and butter to follow this path. He has also created the Volks Art range which you can view and buy online at www.volksart.co.nz with the intent of making his art accessible to everyone. Mark does not believe that art should be the domain of a wealthy elite often purchased for investment purposes only and for this reason has not pursued a career in fine arts due to this pointt until now. First and foremost Art in his opinion should say something and often it’s controversial. Perhaps Artists just like the sound of their own voices in paper and Canvas ……… but traditionally Artists and Writers are the first to put against the wall and shot in any revolution. How lucky we are to live in New Zealand where we can still say what we want to for the mean time……

Mark Lives with His Partner on Sunshine Hill in a roomy renovated cottage with sweeping views of the Wanganui River and the King Country. Every 5 minutes the light and mood changes and something we never tire of watching. It’s certainly is inspirational.

In his spare time which is not much Mark also likes to keep Bees having several hives which may become an income stream as well, Mark also loves Snowboarding Motorcycles and pugilistic pursuits. He has always had an interest in Geopolitics, Philosophy, history and what’s going on behind the scenes and loves to spend time looking into the interesting and unusual

Recently winning a couple of prizes at the Waimarino Art Awards recently has given Mark more confidence that he is on the

right path.
